Common Threads Garment & Prop Call

We are getting closer every day to the launch (and more information being revealed) about our first issue of the new Common Threads publication. So far, with our team of writers, designers, and yarns selected, we’re already featuring over 20 regional artisans in the pages of our first issue! We’d love to add your business to this list—read on to learn how you can get involved. First, revisit our mood board and get acquainted with the issue’s theme, Abundance.

Garments, Accessories and Jewelry Needed

In each issue of Common Threads, we want to feature suggestions about how to wear—and where to buy—sustainable wardrobe items! We have many talented designers and clothing brands in our region we know meet this need. For Issue 001, we are looking for these types of items for our Sustainable Style Feature:

  • Clothing you would wear in early Autumn or late summer

  • Garments that feel free-flowing, romantic or dreamy

  • Garments that feel utilitarian, classic and useful

  • Warm tones and textures

Handmade, one of a kind, couture, mended and all-natural thrifted items are also welcome: please just let us know how best to advertise your work or business. All garments selected for inclusion will be credited within the issue, photographed on a model, and acknowledged through our social media.

To submit your garment, accessory or jewelry for inclusion, please send our editor an email using the button here, describing and linking your product suggestions. All garments, accessories and jewelry will be returned unless otherwise arranged.

Products and Props Needed

In this issue of Common Threads, we have two feature flat lays and stories that provide the opportunity to showcase a variety of products and materials from HVTP members and more.

Naturally Warm Feature

The goal of this feature is to highlight the vast array of animal fiber colors available within the warm toned range.

  • Undyed animal fiber samples in different warm tones (warm white, cream, oatmeal, sand, cinnamon, etc.) in various forms (locks, rolags, batts, roving, handspun, yarn, finished items, etc.)

  • Wooden spinning or fiber tools that show age: shears, hand cards or combs, spinning wheel parts or elements, bobbins, darning eggs, crafting notions, typesetting drawers or small curio cabinets / shelves.

  • Warm toned or neutral / naturally colored weavings, quilting, patchwork, needlepoint, rug punch or other textiles

Abundant Harvest Feature

We know many of our members have additional businesses raising products other than fiber. This feature gives members an opportunity to shop your other goods; all vendors will be credited.

  • Produce and florals from farms (flowers, eggs, vegetables, etc.) - we will arrange pickup the day before and are specifically seeking farms within 1-2 hours of Greenwich, NY.

  • Packaged or photo-ready products (with removable labels if possible). This includes not only finished fiber products but also other farm products (maple, fruit, cider) or artisan goods (ceramics, baskets, wovens, sewn items, notions).

  • Baskets, specifically shallow baskets in circular, oval, or rounded-corner shapes. These do not need to be handmade or handmade regionally but it would be preferred. Please share the story if you have it about your basket.

Do you think any of your fiber or non-fiber offerings would be a good addition? Send our editor an email using the button below, describing and linking your product suggestions.

Please note: If your yarn has already been selected for inclusion elsewhere, it will likely show up in these features as well and you do not need to send a new inquiry.

All items loaned will be returned.

For most items, a strip of painter’s tape or masking tape affixed to an unnoticeable part of the object (like the inside back of a garment, or the bottom of a garment) is the best option.

For items that could be damaged by tape, include a storage bag or box with your name or label on it, or affix a tie-on label.

Please make sure to include your return address when filling out the form if you are choosing to ship us an item. After the shoot, Common Threads will ship your item(s) back to you.

If you will be dropping off your item in person you will also have the option to pick it up in person after the shoot in the same location.
