Scouring is Coming!

A new update has been posted to the Clean Fleece Go Fund Me today:

In the last two weeks we have been very busy here at Clean Fleece. We have had two meetings with Hong and Steve from AgResearch New Zealand in order to get our scouring line calibrated perfectly and so we can learn how to use the machine.

The dream team here consists of head machinist Mike Marsh, Head machinist at Battenkill Fibers Tim Holt, Head washer Norah Moses and friend of Clean Fleece Jeff Moses. While we met with many technical and mechanical issues we were able to get the scouring line moving!

This machine is very different from the scouring sinks we are used to at Battenkill Fibers. A computer is used to control the “Tamp” and “Agitation” of the fiber. You may be reading this and saying “Ack! Won’t the agitate function totally felt my beautiful fiber??” Fear not! There will be no felting done with the KiwiScour. The “Agitate” process simply means the machine will rinse dirt and debris off of the fiber. The “Tamp” function runs the water and soap through the fiber. The machine can run one basket through an entire wash process in nine minutes or less depending on the fiber- which is much , much quicker than washing by hand.

We will have at least one more meeting with our contacts at AgResearch in New Zealand to ensure that the scouring line is running absolutely perfectly so we can finally start taking in orders and get to washing!

Yes, you read that right—Clean Fleece will be accepting orders soon, and HVTP members will be among the first to be able to get in that queue.
