Love for Sara

This is a special podcast to recognize Sara Bauer (sarapomegranate), the beloved host of Yarns at Yin Hoo podcast. We heard this week from Sara, “My cancer has returned”. Of course we were sad, and stunned. How could this happen to our friend Sara who is always such an inspiration? But in true Sara fashion she immediately reminded us to think beyond what’s in front us. To think positively and to look forward to the future.

Sure, tough days are ahead for Sara. But we are not without hope and neither is she. Sara is staying positive and we so admire her for doing that. We know you want to show Sara your love and support. She asks that you do so by making a donation of $50 or more to CleanFleece NY to further her hopes and dreams for a strong, sustainable and responsible textile supply chain. By honoring her request for donations you are showing your hope – your hope for her and your hope for the project.

Sara asked what items at the new scouring facility most needed people’s support; and we were quick to respond - installing a new three phase electrical transformer. The estimated cost of this part of the project is $10,000. CleanFleece needs the transformer to properly power up the scouring line and dryer. So here again - one more way in which our friend Sara is a true industry transformer!

For each donation of $50 or more, a locally-sourced all-wool felted sheep, heart, star or other cute shape will be embroidered with your name and added to a garland that Sara’s friend Marybeth is making for her. The garland will decorate Sara’s space and remind her in some small way of her friends’ love and support. Thank you also to Gail at Hudson Valley Fibers for making these objects and the crew at Battenkill Fibers for preparing the roving for the felt.

Sara recommended a $50 donation, but we are grateful for whatever amount you can contribute. If you would like to sew, knit, crochet, weave, etc. a nature-themed textile item (no larger than 4”x4”) to add to the garland instead (or in addition to your donation), that would be lovely and much appreciated. Please mail the items to Marybeth Kress, 1630 Hawthorne St, Pittsburgh, PA 15201. Be sure to include your name on or with your object.

To donate, go to the Hudson Valley Textile Project’s Go Fund Me page for CleanFleece NY; and in the message box at checkout put “sending love to Sara”, If you would rather pay by check or pay from an invoice, DM @mjpacker or email your information to hvtextileproject@gmail.com and we will follow up with you directly.

Sara inspires us to think about what one person can do; and what a group of people can do together. She thinks big. She thinks anything’s possible. She shoots for the stars. Sara is an important influence and long-standing resource in the Hudson Valley fiber community. Now it’s our turn to shoot for the stars for Sara. The future of the slow fashion movement in our region is in our hands. Let’s show Sara what we can do.
