To kick-off the season, we are going to have a Maker and Consumer awareness project to be released at NY Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY. The ‘Make-It’ or ‘Take-It’ Hudson Valley Mitts will be sold either as a kit to make, or as finished gloves. We have been busy working with local spinners, dyers, manufacturers, and home sewers to prepare kits that will either contain gloves manufactured in Schenectady from yarn spun in the region from area farms’ wool or the yarn and a pattern to knit fingerless mitts from yarn spun and dyed in the region and sourced from area farms. Project bags made from repurposed fabric with the Hudson Valley Textile Project label will accompany both kinds of mitts, along with a sample size of Soak wool wash and a rack card about the goals and mission of the HV Textile Project. All of this will be packaged in a cellulose, compostable clear bag. We hope makers and consumers will pause and consider the impacts of fast fashion and strengthen their commitment to working with and purchasing sustainably farmed and minimally processed materials and finished goods local to this place on the land.
All profits from the sale of these items will go toward future HV Textile Project marketing and communications projects.
