Summer is in full-gear and so is ‘Textile Lab’!
Are you looking for something new, different, keep cool this month? Then check out what Laura Sansone’s ‘Textile Lab’ in Beacon, NY has in store. We recently dropped in on one of Laura’s Natural Dye Workshops to see what she has been up to these days. Laura is passionate about creating small fiber market network connections. She has been at the forefront of regional & sustainable materials for more than 10 years. Formerly a teacher at Parsons, she help start their ‘Healthy Materials Lab’. As her many years teaching evolved, Laura saw the need to connect fiber farmers and designers. The ‘New York Regional Yarn Source Book’ was created. This hefty 2-volume set showcases local textile mills and fiber farms for designers to use when developing their collections. You would not believe the diversity and quality of fibers available right here in New York state!
Laura’s ‘Textile Lab’ studio combines her passions. As an expert dyer and teacher, Laura loves to open her workspace to educate and share her techniques on making high-quality, sustainably sourced and organically dyed fabrics by offering a series of hands-on community workshops and events. Laura plants & harvests many of her natural dyes at ‘Common Ground Farm’ in Wappingers Falls, NY. Laura’s hands are often covered with dirt from her work on the farm, OR tinted blue from her favorite Organic Indigo dyes. Her enthusiasm and can-do attitude is infectious & inspiring! Sign up for one of her classes and get your hands dirty too!
